Week 6: Blogging and expression
As you are aware, the school sports day is upon us once again this year. This year though wont be like any other year though! Now that the year 7's have taken control over the sports day. As a part of their english unit being embedded with the spirit of the Olympics students have made a few changes to the orignal sports day. Instead of the school being represented by 7 sporting houses, there will be 7 countries, this was changed due to the influence of the Olympics and how every students was thoroughly engaged. Through their work in class leading up to this change they know in great detail about their 'represented country' due to the activities that was required by them to complete which is not the case about their sporting houses. They know that their sporting houses come from street names but other than that there is no more information provided to them about their sporting houses which I feel students find it hard to represent something in sport that they know very little about.
Another change is a ceremony about the countries which also gives insight to other countries to people and provides the students in lower grades an understanding of their country which they are representing.
Students will also be in charge of the water, oranges and suncreen supply and the cost of them all. As opposed to teachers normally performing this task. Students also have a lot of back knowledge about this event and their country as opposed to every other year where they know very minimal about it.
There is also advertisement around the school for students and parents to view this year in order to draw in a bigger crowd then usual.
These are some of the changes towards the new and improve sports day for this year, for the other changes come and find out and get involved with the excitement!
